- Photoo of: Grandfather’s eldest brother, Abram Andreas Janz, GM #860482. He was born the eldest son of Andreas Janz in Sparrau, Molotschna, and worked as a shopkeeper in Podolsk until he went to do alternative service in the Forstei. There he was, by accounts of a letter (or letters) to his sweetheart, treated badly, tried to run away and go back home but was caught and returned to the Forstei camp, framed for a crime through some prank and had to flee Russia dressed as a beggar. His sweetheart had been Anna Dick, GM #860481, and his intended bride. When Abram fled Russia, the Dick family didn’t quite know what to do so his younger brother, Heinrich Andreas Janz, was offered as a solution and he married Anna Dick in Abrams place. It is said in the family that Abram came to New York City in the USA where he may have changed his name to Frederick Jensen, and he worked as a translator. All attempts to find him by the family have failed. Thank you, Jennifer Hicks
